Loyalty to the original: “My Hero Academia” author oversees Netflix film adaptation

The new screenwriter of the live-action adaptation of “My Hero Academia” recently commented on the involvement of Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of the manga, in the creation of the live-action adaptation. We summarize.

Author heavily involved

Just a few weeks ago it was announced that Jason Fuchs (“Wonder Woman”) would be taking over the script for the Netflix and Legendary Entertainment production. Previously, the project had repeatedly struggled with difficulties, even though the “My Hero Academia” film had already been announced in October 2018.

But now things finally seem to be getting serious and so that the adaptation at least doesn’t have any further problems in terms of quality, original author Kohei Horikoshi was very closely involved in the production, as Fuchs has now revealed:

»There is no storyline, no concept or scene that Horikoshi does not give feedback on – be it approval or rejection. This gives me great confidence that we are creating something that will really delight fans.«

Fuchs explained that the project is currently in an early development phase. His main concern is not with the live-action element itself, but with authentically portraying the right atmosphere and the nature of the characters.

He wanted to achieve a result that would be perceived by fans as faithful and respectful of the original, while also making it easier for newcomers to access.

It will probably be a few years before it is published, so until then fans will have to make do with the manga, which is published by Carlsen Verlag, and the anime series, which is available on Crunchyroll.
