“After years of rumors, Master Chief is officially making his way to PlayStation 5.” The announcement was made during the Halo World Championship 2025 and confirms a strategic shift by Microsoft, which is gradually opening its flagship licenses to competition. The iconic Xbox saga therefore joins the list of titles now available on several platforms.
The game in question? Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the very first Halo released in 2001. And this time, the experience will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PCsimultaneously. “Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled for release in 2026 and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC and, for the first time ever, PlayStation 5.”
A neat remake for an FPS icon
Rather than being satisfied with a simple portage, Halo Studios chose to start from scratch. The game is completely rebuilt in theUnreal Engine 5for a visual and sound experience that meets current standards. “Halo: Campaign Evolved remakes the original 2001 game’s campaign in Unreal Engine 5.”
The story remains faithful to the original, but several gameplay updates come to enrich the whole. Players will now be able to:
- Sprinter freely
- Wield nine additional weapons (including the energy sword, the Needler or the combat rifle)
- Activate skulls specials to modify the difficulty
“The new game will feature some modern updates, including the ability to sprint, the ability to wield nine additional weapons in the game […] and additional ‘skulls’.”
Three new missions to extend the legend
The real surprise comes from exclusive content added to this remake. “Halo: Campaign Evolved will feature three all-new prequel missions set before the events of the original game.” These new sequences will enrich the lore, with new environments, new enemies and characterswhile keeping the tactical and epic spirit that made the license famous.
In solo, split-screen or four-player online co-op, this new Halo promises an experience both nostalgic and refreshingaimed as much at old fans as at a new generation of players.
The announcement marks a major moment for the sector: the opening of an Xbox monument to the PlayStation public. After Sea of Thieves and Gears of War, it is Master Chief himself who crosses the border. The appointment is made for 2026.
