Marvel Zombies comes to Marvel Rivals with a free PvE mode

The Marvel franchise isn’t done with the undead. After the comics and the animated series, zombies return in a video game : Marvel Rivals is about to launch its very first fashion PvEfree, from October 23, 2025.

Announced on the game’s official account, this new cooperative mode will pit you, as a team, against successive waves of infected enemies in a burning urban setting. This new mode plunges you and your squad into a fierce fight for survival against endless waves of undead. The city is burning, the infected are multiplying, and it’s up to you to hold on.” Enough to give a new dimension to this game previously focused on competitive multiplayer.

Five playable heroes and two undead bosses on the program

In this special mode, players will only be able to play as five heroes : Thor, Blade, Jeff, Magik And The Punisher. Each benefits from special abilities designed to resist waves of zombies:

  • Blade handle one Bouncing Lunar Bladea nod to Moon Knight.
  • Thor can trigger electrical attacks, but only in mode Awakening.
  • Jeff plays the group attack card with jaws.
  • Magik operates a Unlimited Child of Darkness form.
  • The Punisher remains true to itself: raw and effective.

A small team, but designed for dynamic and asymmetrical gameplay. Other characters could be added later, if the mode meets the expected success.

The progression culminates with two new bosses : Namor zombie versionThen the Queen of the Deadin clashes that promise intensity and challenge. This content could mark a turning point for the game, especially for players tired of versus mode.

An attempt to revive Marvel Rivals

Launched with great fanfare last year, Marvel Rivals experienced a 85% decline in its player base according to Forbes. A worrying figure that the publisher NetEase hopes to reverse with this kind of free and original updates.

Marvel Zombies mode therefore has a dual objective: seduce cooperative fans And reinject interest around a title that is losing momentum. If the sauce takes off, Marvel Rivals could regain a place of choice in the most played free games at the end of the year.
