Each new opus signed by Rockstar pushes the limits of the open world. And this technical ambition has a very real cost: disk space. If GTA V already required 100 GB in its version optimized for new generation consoles, and Red Dead Redemption 2 flirted with 150 GB, GTA 6 could well explode this ceiling.
Planned for May 2026the game has already been the subject of much speculation about its size. On forums and online discussions, an estimate often comes up: between 100 and 150 GBat least. But according to rumors concerning the size of the map and the new graphics, some put forward figures of up to 200 GB, or even more on PC.
Comparison with old Rockstar games: the curve only goes up
For comparison:
- GTA V on Xbox 360 / PS3 : 17 GB.
- GTA V on PC : 70 GB.
- GTA V on PS5 / Xbox Series : approximately 100 GB.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 : up to 150 GB.
With GTA 6 designed exclusively for the next-geneach texture, animation or interaction will cost more in disk space. And if a PC version comes out later with 4K textures or heavy mods, the 200 GB mark seems entirely realistic.
Should we free up space yet? Yes, probably
Even though there are several months before the release, it is better to prepare for it now. Between backups, captures and installed games, storage fills up quickly. And if you plan to keep your other favorite titles, an external hard drive could be the solution.
Because one thing is certain: GTA 6 will not be downloaded lightly. And no one will want to wait or have to uninstall several games at the last minute for fear of missing out on what is already shaping up to be one of the video game events of the decade.
