It was announced at the Screenforce Festival 2026 that the German Disney Channel will be renamed Disney TV this year. We summarize.
“The station is growing up”
While the Disney Channel has been aimed primarily at children and families since its free TV launch in January 2014, the channel has increasingly been expanding its programming to include content for adult viewers since last year.
It is precisely this target group that Disney TV will increasingly target in the future. “The station is growing up”said Eun-Ky Park, Disney Country Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, when presenting the new concept.
Specifically, the program offering is to be expanded to include animation, live-action series, drama series, documentaries and content from FX, Marvel Studios and “Star Wars”. There are also plans to show selected titles that previously ran exclusively on Disney+ on free TV. However, fixed program blocks for children and families will continue to be maintained in the future.
So far, neither a specific date for the relaunch nor individual series or films have been mentioned. If there is any relevant news for anime fans in this context, we will of course keep you up to date.
In parallel to the realignment of the free TV channel, Disney+ has also made its offering much broader in recent months – including anime content such as “Dragon Ball Super”, “Naruto”, “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and “Jujutsu Kaisen”.
