LEGO rejects Ghibli fans again: Popular Ideas sets rejected

Ghibli fans have been waiting for official LEGO sets for the studio’s popular films for years. However, a recent decision has put a damper on this wish again. We summarize.

Ghibli sets rejected again

As part of the most recent LEGO Ideas review, a total of 143 fan designs were rejected, which previously received over 10,000 endorsements – including several projects related to Studio Ghibli.

Five sets are specifically affected, four of which were based on “My Neighbor Totoro,” while another idea was based on “Spirited Away.” The models submitted took up central scenes and characters from the films.

The “Totoro” entries showed, among other things, the iconic moment with the umbrella as well as the Catbus including the stop and minifigures. The “Chihiro” concept, on the other hand, relied on an extensive model of the bathhouse with detailed interiors and several characters such as Chihiro, Haku and No-Face.

We recently reported that a total of six “Totoro” designs were able to collect the required number of 10,000 endorsements, but unfortunately there are now only two left to keep your fingers crossed for.

While Ghibli fans still have to wait for an official LEGO implementation, things are looking much better for other anime brands. Sets for “One Piece” and “Pokémon” were recently released, while the next collaborations with “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and “KPop Demon Hunters” are already just around the corner.
