Steam is giving away a cult 2025 horror game for free to definitely keep

Steam hits hard with a new horror tip: for a few days, players can recover for free Overcome Your Fears: Caretakera psychological horror game released in 2025, to definitely add to their library.

Behind this title hides a solo project signed markuwaaaaanoted for its very 90s VHS aesthetic and its short but tense narration, already ranked “Mostly Positive” on Steam. The promotion is limited in time; here’s what you need to know so you don’t miss out.

Overcome Your Fears: Caretaker free on Steam: until when can you get it back?

Overcome Your Fears: Caretaker is currently at -100% on Steam as part of a Limited Free Promotional Package May 2026 operation. Its normal price is $5.99 (around €5.50), but until May 7, 2026 at 5 p.m. Paris timeit is displayed at 0 €.

Important: this is an offer free-to-keep. Concretely, if you add the game to your account during the promotional window, you keep it for life, even after May 7. Just open Steam, search for the title, click “Add to Library” and that’s it; the download can wait until later.

Overcome Your Fears: Caretaker: a closed session of psychological horror designed for an evening

In Overcome Your Fears: Caretakeryou embody Steve Jacksona 19-year-old student who agrees to house-sit for friends in a small town. Very quickly, the guard turns to the investigation, between disturbing noises, hidden secrets and exploration of the surroundings in a first person view.

We are faced with a narrative walking simulator : no combat or complex mechanics, but slow progression, focused on atmosphere, sounds and psychological tension. The grainy cassette-style image reinforces the 90s feel, in a vein reminiscent of Fears to Fathom. The creator even presents the series as a “cozy psychological horror”, a short horror format designed to be done in one session.

Count approximately one hour of play to see the credits, which some found a little light at the normal rate. In free, this condensed duration becomes rather an asset for a little thrilling evening without committing to a long survival.

French language, Steam notice, Steam Deck: should we hurry before May 7?

On Steam, the game displays around 76% positive reviewslabeled “Mostly Positive”. Players especially praise the sound environment, the increase in pressure and the VHS rendering; the criticisms mainly focus on the simplicity of the gameplay and the brevity, points much easier to accept at 0 €.

Good news for French-speaking audiences: the interface and subtitles are available in Frenchwith dubbing in English or Russian. Technically, the title is light and runs without difficulty on a modest PC. It also has an official badge Playable on Steam Deck : perfect for a one-hour run on a laptop, despite some slightly small texts.

This freebie falls just as the developer is preparing the second episode, Overcome Your Fears: Lighthouse. Clearly, the idea is to introduce the universe to as many people as possible. If you like short, atmospheric psychological horror stories, you should add the game to your account before May 7 at 5 p.m..
