Big leak for the future iPhone 18 Pro Max : a video of getting started with metal models shows a design very close to the 17 Pro Max, with two changes that are obvious. There Dynamic Island would be around 25% smaller, while the rear photo module significantly gains in volume. Enough to announce a very photo-oriented 2026 vintage.
The YouTube channel Max Tech claims to rely on models provided to case manufacturers, from the same source as those of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. NotebookCheck points out that these older models “proved to be a near-perfect reflection of the final hardware.” The leak remains to be taken conditionally, but it seems credible to anticipate the screen and the photo part.
iPhone 18 Pro Max: what does the mock-up video leak really show?
The aluminum blocks of iPhone 18 Pro Max reveal a chassis barely higher, wider and thicker than that of the 17 Pro Max, to the point that some current cases could still be suitable. The most visible change remains the facade: the cutting of the Dynamic Island would go from approximately 20.06 mm to 14.98 mm wide, while remaining centered, which puts an end to rumors of an offset hole in one corner.
Dynamic Island 25% smaller and new photo module: what does that change on a daily basis?
Reduce the width of the Dynamic Island frees up space for full-screen content. Interface bars at the top of games, mini-maps or subtitles will be a little less cut, as will streaming HUDs. On a large 6.7-inch screen, this gain remains modest but visible, especially for those who play or watch a lot of videos in landscape mode.
Behind, the photo module of iPhone 18 Pro Max would be thicker, with a plate that would gain almost a millimeter and lenses enlarged from 16.15 mm to 16.5 mm. This additional space suggests larger sensors and a main lens to variable aperture. Like a mechanical iris, it could close in broad daylight to keep the entire scene in focus, then open at night to capture more light and enhance background blur, useful in concert photos as well as gameplay videos or vlogging.
iPhone 18 Pro Max: when will it be released, at what expected price and should we wait?
According to the latest roadmaps, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would be presented in fall 2026, at the same time as a possible iPhone Ultra foldable. More affordable models, like the “classic” iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2 and iPhone 18e, would then arrive in spring 2027. Apple would undoubtedly remain close to the current prices of the Pro models, around 1,200 dollars, or around 1,300 €.
For iPhone 15 or 16 Pro Max owners, the combination of reduced Dynamic Island, enlarged photo block and potentially better battery life may justify waiting until 2026, especially if photo and video count for more than the new software expected this year.
