The Super Mario Galaxy film records the best start of the year with $372.5 million

Almost as good as the first film

The movie Super Mario Galaxy has now been released in quite a few territories and it is already time to take a first look at its performance. In 5 days, the film will have collected $372.5 million at the box officeincluding 190 million in the United States (the largest territory for Illumination) and more than 182 million in the rest of the world. Which is more than enough to record the best start of the year, far ahead of the good performance of Project Hail Mary (Last Chance Project at home), which held the record for two weeks with 140 million dollars (over 3 days).

Compared to the first Mario film, this sequel made a few million less (not counting inflation) since the previous feature film had reached 375 million dollars. We grant you, the difference is minimal, a sign that the public was eager to see the plumber in theaters. It remains to be seen whether it will have the necessary legs to do as well as the first film, which exceeded 1.36 billion dollars. What seems almost certain is to exceed the billion mark, and that is already more than enough for a film which required 110 million dollars to produce.
