Elden Ring is emulated
Unlike the first episode, mainly confined to the swamps of Fallgrim, Mortal Shell II takes a new direction by offering an open world presented as compact. We are also promised an environment that is larger, more varied and massively populated with enemies.
The title highlights three playable “envelopes”, each with its own identity:
- Tiel, the Acolyte
- Eredrim, the Venerable
- Proxima
Each character will follow a distinct path in the game world and offer a unique approach to combat, whether in terms of power, agility or strategy. According to the gameplay video, we see quite varied enemies and an approach that seems more brutal than ever. Not to mention the aesthetics seem quite clean. As a reminder, the first Mortal Shell had been generally well received as a Souls-like despite a fairly average overall quality.
It seems that studio Cold Symmetry has revised its ambitions upwards with a structure which undeniably recalls Elden Ring. If the game intends to take advantage of this influence, it will obviously suffer from the comparison.
