Zelda Ocarina of Time FINALLY returns to Switch 2, a leak suggests the imminent release of the remake

A return that could shake up an entire generation of players. While Nintendo is actively preparing the future of the Switch 2, a major leak has revived hope around one of the most cult games in history.

According to a renowned insider, a remake of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is in preparation for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release planned for the end of 2026. Information which, if confirmed, could mark a turning point in Nintendo’s strategy.

A remake of Zelda Ocarina of Time mentioned for Christmas 2026

The information comes from Natethehate, an insider already recognized for several accurate revelations related to Nintendo. According to his words: “During the second half of 2026, as the end of year holidays approach, or even during, we will be entitled to a remake of Ocarina of Time on Switch 2”. This release window coincides with a key period for Nintendo, traditionally marked by major launches.

The insider also specifies that the project still remains unclear in its form: “I was a little skeptical in January, because I didn’t think they would do it. I hear about a remake of Ocarina of Time. I don’t have details on its scope. Perhaps we will be entitled to an identical remake, like Demon’s Souls, or perhaps to a remake which will leave a lot of creative freedom”.

A new Star Fox expected from summer 2026

The escape doesn’t stop at Zelda. A new Star Fox game is also said to be in the works. Its announcement could come as early as April, with a release planned for later in the year. The game would notably offer an online multiplayer mode, an important development for the license. This would mark the return of a franchise absent since Star Fox Zero in 2016, an episode which received a mixed reception upon its release.

Nintendo is preparing for a busy 2026 but without Mario 3D

Another notable element: the absence of a new Super Mario Odyssey or an equivalent in 2026. The next major 3D Mario game would instead be planned for 2027, which leaves room for other strong licenses to bring the Switch 2 this year. Several titles are already expected in the coming months, including:

  • Splatoon Raiders
  • Rhythm Heaven Groove
  • Fire Emblem Fortune Weave

Nintendo thus seems to want to spread its major releases over several years to maintain the attention of players.

Perfect timing with the 40th anniversary of Zelda and the upcoming film

The year 2026 also marks a symbolic moment for the Zelda license, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Even though Nintendo hasn’t officially celebrated the anniversary recently, releasing a remake of Ocarina of Time this Christmas would help mark the occasion. This launch would also be part of a broader strategy, ahead of the live-action Zelda film scheduled for May 2027.
