The PlayStation Network will visibly change its name in September according to an email sent internally

PlayStation Rework

The information comes to us from Insider Gaming who saw an email sent by PlayStation to its internal teams: The PlayStation Network, or PSN, is almost over. Be careful, the evolution it will undergo only concerns its brandingaccording to the content of the email:

We would like to inform you that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has decided to gradually remove the terms “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” from its platform to better reflect the scope of its ever-expanding digital services. The upcoming changes are purely visual and will not make any technical changes to our offerings.

Concretely, for the players, nothing will change, we will just have to get used to whatfrom September 2026the names change:

To simplify and unify our branding, the terms “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” will be phased out from all SIE media by September 2026. All features currently associated with PSN, including core features such as Friends, Multiplayer and Trophies, will remain available to players. You will be notified in advance of these changes, along with the update of the Technical Requirements Checklist (TRC) in fall 2026.

By the way, the TRC is basically a set of tests that a game must pass in order to be marketed on the desired platform (here, the PlayStation ecosystem). The last part of the email concerns the developers, asking them to ensure that any mention of the PSN is removed in the future.

We don’t really know if the name change was necessary, without having a vague idea of the new one, and we are also ready to read your best proposals. In the meantime, if it could symbolically keep us away from untimely breakdowns for good, we’ll take it.
