Mysterious teaser gives a foretaste of the new “Evangelion” series


On February 23, 2026, the climax of the 30th anniversary celebrations of “Evangelion,” it was announced at the closing event that a new anime series based on the franchise is in production. A teaser followed today.

The new project, dubbed “Next Genesis,” is directed by Toko Yatabe (“Evangelion 3.0 (-46h)”) and Kazuya Tsurumaki (“Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time”) and produced at the khara and CloverWorks studios.

Yoko Taro (“NieR:Automata Ver1.1a”) is responsible for the script, while the background music comes from Keiichi Okabe (“Yuki Yuna”).

Details of the content are still pending, but after more than 30 years, “Evangelion” fans can now look forward to a new series on the successful mecha franchise – even if a date is still missing. The first teaser, which you can find below, contains the names of those involved and the following lines of text:

  • »The eternal summer holidays«
  • “This is our paradise”
  • “This is our cemetery”
  • “What you hear is a song of eternal punishment”
  • »Production begins on a brand new “Evangelion” series«
  • “May these souls rest in peace”

In addition to the announcement of the new anime series, a new short film was premiered during the event, focusing on Asuka Langley and giving her much-needed closure after the events of “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.” It is not known when the 13-minute work will be released outside of Japan, but creator Hideaki Anno promised a timely solution.

If you don’t want to wait until then, you can at least watch the original “Neon Genesis Evangelion” series on Netflix and the four-film “Rebuild of Evangelion” series on Prime Video.
