GTA 6: Rockstar confirms the return of first-person mode, but not everyone will use it

Introduced for the first time during the next-gen port of GTA V, the first-person mode surprised fans. It was not just a graphic gadget, but a new way of experiencing the action, directly in the skin of the character. “It was confusing at first, but players quickly got used to it, and it eventually became a feature at launch for Red Dead Redemption 2.”

With GTA 6, Rockstar confirms that this feature will be available from the start. However, if it has its followers, particularly for shootings, it remains an option more than a standard, and the arguments in favor of the classic view remain numerous.

Why the third person remains the most popular

There’s a simple reason why players keep returning to third person in GTA: the thrill of the spectacle. Cinematic chases, explosions, accidents, stunts… so many elements that take on another dimension when seen in hindsight.

Added to this is an often forgotten aspect: personalization. Since Red Dead 2, Rockstar has focused a lot on the appearance of characters, clothing, gestures, facial expressions. “But why bother customizing your character if you almost never see them because of the first person view?”

The first-person mode hides all this visual work. The player is certainly more immersed, but he loses the overall vision of a world designed to be observed, not just experienced from the inside.

A matter of style, not performance

From a purely mechanical point of view, the two views offer different sensations, without one being objectively superior. The aim is identical, the precision too. But on an emotional level, everything changes.

“Certainly the first-person view is more immersive, but I don’t know many Grand Theft Auto players who play for the immersion; they play for the fun of the game.”

Rockstar understands this well: in GTA, freedom takes precedence. You are free to switch between the two modes depending on the mood, the mission or the moment. And this is undoubtedly where the real strength of the game lies.

See, feel… or experience GTA 6 in your own way

With GTA 6, everything indicates that players will once again be able to shape their experience as they see fit. “There will be tons of things to see and do, and lots of ways to customize our characters, and I personally can’t wait to see them interact with this new world.”

This freedom, whether aesthetic, narrative or mechanical, is at the heart of what Grand Theft Auto represents. And it doesn’t matter whether you choose to experience the adventure as your character or as a dynamic spectator… as long as you enjoy the city.
