Since the release of its 2.0 update in 2023, Cyberpunk 2077 has evolved a lot. CD Projekt Red has fixed many of the bugs reported by the community. However, a problem persisted: enemies could spot corpses through walls, ruining well-thought-out infiltration sequences.
In the basic version, it was enough for an NPC to pass near a body, even hidden behind an obstacle, for a general alert to be triggered. “A simple presence on a corpse can trigger an alert, even if it is behind a car, a shelter or an element of the decor.”
The Silent Bodies mod changes everything
Faced with this concern, a modder named NullPointerExcy developed Silent Bodiesa free mod to install via Nexus Mods. The latter adds a logical check to the line of sight of NPCs before they trigger an alert when faced with a corpse.
Concretely, the mod applies what is called “ray casting” from the NPC’s eyes to different parts of the body (head, torso, legs). If none of these rays encounter a free visual field, the alert is not triggered. It will simply be postponed until later, if the body becomes visible.
Result: “infiltration works as expected, there is no longer any psychic detection of corpses, fewer false alarms and infiltration missions are smoother”.
Advanced options to adapt NPC behavior
In addition to fixing a historical bug, Silent Bodies goes further. The mod offers various adjustable settings, to fine-tune the experience according to player preferences.
Among the most notable options: “Silent Bodies also features a distance limiting option, essentially allowing NPCs’ line of sight to behave differently at greater distances.” It is also possible to adjust the eye height, detection angles, or even ray offsets.
And if you want to alternate between vanilla and modified experiences, no worries: “There is also an option to activate or deactivate it at will.”
A promising first mod for an already respected creator
Although this is his first Cyberpunk 2077 mod, NullPointerExcy is far from unknown. He has created several popular designs for Skyrim, including Dynamic Wetnesswhich makes the characters visibly wet in the rain, and True Faction Systema faction recognition system influencing gameplay.
With Silent Bodies, he applies the same rigor to Night City. Excellent news for anyone who expects more consistency from a stealth RPG… and a little less “psychic vision”.
