Since its very first teaser released at E3 2018, The Elder Scrolls VI has been desired. Eight years later, no full trailer, no gameplay images, and not the slightest date. The sequel to the legendary Skyrim is still on everyone’s lips, especially those of fans who monitor any news related to Bethesda.
In January 2026, it was a simple sentence published by Xbox that restarted the speculation machine: “2026 will be a big year for games ending in 6”. A formulation as vague as it is intriguing, which was enough to explode Reddit and Twitter in the TES community.
Developer Direct: the perfect scene for a return of TES VI?
The announcement doesn’t come out of nowhere. Xbox will hold its annual Developer Direct event on January 22, with several highly anticipated projects on the program: the Fable reboot, Forza Horizon 6 in Japan, and Reincarnation, the new RPG from Game Freak.
Officially, The Elder Scrolls VI is not on the list. But for many fans, the lack of confirmation does not exclude a surprise effect. The Xbox tease is seen by some as an implicit promise. On Reddit, one user sums up how many feel: “God, this hurts to read. This could be a small clue, or it could also have absolutely nothing to do with TES”
The shadow of Fallout 5 still hangs over Bethesda
It must be said that caution is required. Bethesda, now under the Microsoft umbrella, is currently working on Fallout 5, which appears to be hampering active development of TES VI. Since 2018, information has been scarce and the studio’s priorities seem elsewhere.
At the same time, other projects are monopolizing attention, such as the mentioned remakes of Morrowind or the collaborations around Starfield. Frustration mounts, but hope persists, as another player sums up: “Interesting, maybe TESVI will get a trailer later this year.”
YOUR VI in 2026? A simple illusion or a real window?
We must remain lucid: The Elder Scrolls VI still has no date, nor even an official presentation apart from its logo against a mountain background. But the hope of a preview, a trailer, or a real schedule continues to resurface as soon as an Xbox event is on the horizon.
If the Developer Direct on January 22 reveals nothing, summer events like the Xbox Showcase or Gamescom will remain to keep the flame alive. In the meantime, fans are watching for the slightest sentence, the slightest leak, like a treasure hidden in a Skyrim dungeon.
