A more realistic and more punitive mechanic
So far, reload in Counter-Strike 2 presented almost no disadvantages. Bullets remaining in a magazine were automatically returned to the ammunition reserves. If you are a long-time player, you know to what extent the reflex to reload is almost systematic, even if you only fire a single bullet with the Desert Eagle.
This is no longer the case today. With this update, any ammunition remaining in the magazine is now lost when reloading. Concretely, changing the magazine before having emptied it means abandoning the remaining bullets. Valve says it wants to introduce “higher stakes” to force players to think more about their resource management.
This change directly modifies the rhythm of the clashes. You will now have to anticipate your games and manage your ammunition with precision. Agreeing to take risks with an open charger will be a new challenge for many regulars. The update also introduces a stricter limit on reserve ammo, with a reduced number of magazines depending on the weapon..
As is often the case with this type of change, the community is divided. Some welcome a more realistic and strategic evolution, while others fear a loss of fluidity in a game historically based on quick reflexes. Many also point out that the game thus loses the “arcade shooter” side that is so popular, while pointing the finger at the studio for the recurring problems concerning cheaters.
We thus witness a start of review bombing on Steam with more than 2,300 negative reviews at the time of writing.
