Ubisoft is giving away an Assassin’s Creed game for a few days, here’s how to download it for free

Assassin’s Creed fans have recently been treated to several big announcements. Ubisoft has confirmed a new phase for the famous license, marked by different projects in development. In the midst of these revelations, one piece of information particularly attracts attention: Assassin’s Creed Unity will be able to be downloaded for free for a limited period.

This initiative is part of Xbox Free Play Days, an event allowing players to try several titles at no cost for a few days. The operation will take place from April 2 to 6 and concerns several games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, including Unity, the episode taking place during the French Revolution.

Assassin’s Creed Unity free during Xbox Free Play Days

For four days, Xbox players will be able to access Assassin’s Creed Unity for free and explore its massive, revolutionary Paris. The trial is part of the Xbox Free Play Days program, regularly used by publishers to highlight certain titles.

Initially released on November 11, 2014, Assassin’s Creed Unity had a particularly difficult launch. Numerous technical bugs tarnished the experience, despite the ambition of the project and the richness of its open world.

Over time, Ubisoft fixed many of the technical issues and the game gradually gained a better reputation among players. Its very fluid parkour system and the detailed reconstruction of Paris still remain among the most popular elements of the series today.

A 60 FPS update on PS5 and Xbox Series

In parallel with this free trial, Ubisoft also announced a significant technical improvement for the game. Assassin’s Creed Unity now benefits from an update allowing it to play at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This optimization significantly improves the fluidity of the gameplay, particularly when moving around the city and during combat. Players will thus be able to rediscover the game in better technical conditions than during its initial release.

The universe of Assassin’s Creed Unity plunges players into the heart of the French Revolution, with a particularly detailed reconstruction of Paris and its monuments. The exploration of the city, combined with the dynamic parkour system, is one of the most memorable aspects of this episode.

Ubisoft increases announcements around Assassin’s Creed

The Unity free trial comes as the Assassin’s Creed franchise prepares several important projects. Ubisoft recently confirmed that several titles are currently in development.

Among them are Assassin’s Creed Jade, a mobile project awaited for several years, as well as a series adaptation developed with Netflix. The publisher is also working on Codename Invictus, a future PvP-oriented game designed by the team behind For Honor.

The franchise should also review certain elements appreciated by players. Ubisoft plans in particular to reintroduce the cooperative mode, absent from the series since Assassin’s Creed Unity.

A long-criticized episode that has become cult for certain players

Despite its rocky launch in 2014, Assassin’s Creed Unity has gradually changed its image over the years. Part of the community today considers this episode to be one of the most ambitious in the series.

The recreation of Paris during the French Revolution remains one of the most detailed cities ever created in the franchise. The large crowds, the emblematic monuments and the historical atmosphere still contribute to the immersion today.

With the 60 FPS update and the free trial period, Ubisoft seems to want to give new visibility to this episode which marked the history of the saga. For players who have never tried it or want to rediscover it, this free window could be the perfect opportunity.
