Ubisoft’s restructuring is taking shape and its consequences are becoming concrete. When the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was officially canceled, five other projects were also scrapped. Insider Gaming has identified the six affected titles. These decisions come as the French publisher is going through a period of internal reorganization, marked by postponements, strategic adjustments and concerns among certain employees.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake definitively abandoned

First announced in 2020, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was to modernize one of the most iconic episodes of the franchise. After several delays and a change of studio during development, the project was ultimately canceled. The termination of this remake symbolizes the extent of the changes made at Ubisoft. This title was one of the most visible projects in the upcoming catalog and aroused significant expectations among players.

Several internal projects stopped in their tracks

In addition to Prince of Persia, several games identified under code names have been abandoned:

  • Project Aether, in development since 2019 at Ubisoft Halifax, has since been transformed into a new version.
  • Project Pathfinder, formerly known as Project U.
  • Project Crest, described as an extraction shooter set during World War II.
  • Discontinued support for Assassin’s Creed Rebellion.
  • Cancellation of Assassin’s Creed Singularity, a mobile project initially also planned for PC.

An Assassin’s Creed multiplayer game has also been dropped according to some sources, but it would not be part of this specific group.

What projects are still in development at Ubisoft?

Despite these cancellations, several major projects remain in progress. Among them is the still-awaited Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake. According to the latest rumors, its presentation could take place in April, after having been postponed to a later date. The strategy now seems oriented towards a rationalization of the project portfolio, with a refocusing on the strongest franchises and the titles considered priorities.
