Subscriptions have become the norm in the video game industry, but this week PlayStation is taking a different direction. Five new games can be downloaded for free on PlayStation 5, and one of them is also available on PlayStation 4. No PS Plus subscription is required.
These are not temporary offers reserved for premium members, but demos and free experiences accessible to all players with a PlayStation account. A rare opportunity to test major titles before deciding on a possible purchase, especially at a time when AAA productions are displaying ever higher prices.
Pragmata and Nioh 3 headlining
Among the new products, Pragmata attracts particular attention. Expected for April 2026, Capcom’s next action-adventure game can be approached via a demo called Pragmata: Sketchbook. This version allows you to explore the basics of gameplay, discover certain environments and understand the combat and reflection mechanics.
For fans of more demanding challenges, the Nioh 3 demo is also available. The third installment of the series inspired by the Souls-like genre offers a glimpse of the beginning of the adventure. There, players can meet the protagonist samurai and face yokai in an open-world environment.
In a recent review, Chris Carter described Nioh 3 as a “great entry into the series”, highlighting the accessibility of this installment despite the franchise’s characteristic difficulty.
My First Gran Turismo, a free introduction to racing
Speed enthusiasts are not forgotten. My First Gran Turismo offers a free and accessible approach to the famous racing license. Designed as a friendly introduction, this version is aimed at both new players and veterans.
The game offers progressive challenges to unlock rewards. As you progress, the circuits become more technical and require better control of trajectories and speed management. This version is available on PlayStation 5, but also on PlayStation 4, thus expanding its accessibility.
Code Vein II and Planet of Lana II complete the selection
The selection doesn’t stop there. Two other demos enrich the free catalog. Code Vein II offers a particular approach. This trial version does not provide access to the full gameplay, but focuses on character customization. Players can create their own Wight Hunter and transfer their creation to the full version of the game, released last month. Often referred to as a “soulslike anime”, Code Vein II combines demanding combat and careful world-building.
Finally, Planet of Lana II offers a demo focused on its puzzle-platformer adventure. A sequel to the acclaimed game in 2023, this new episode is due out in March. The trial version offers a preview of five chapters from the final game, allowing you to discover Lana and Mui’s next adventure.
Test before buying, a welcome strategy
In an era where game prices continue to rise, the ability to try multiple titles without a financial commitment is a notable benefit. These demos offer a real-world look at the experience on offer, whether it’s challenging combat, technical racing, or narrative adventures.
All of these games are available for free on PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store. My First Gran Turismo is also accessible on PlayStation 4. For hesitant or curious players, this selection represents a direct opportunity to discover several universes without requiring a paid subscription.
