Announced six years ago, the series saw its production delayed by the pandemic, which only amplified fans’ expectations. Broadcast on FX in the United States and available in France since August 13, 2025 on Disney+, Alien: Earth offers eight new episodes, broadcast one per week, until September 23.
A plot before the first Alien
The story is set in 2120, two years before the events of the cult film Alien, the eighth passenger (1979). After the USCSS Maginot crashes on Earth, a team of soldiers and Wendy – a sick young woman whose consciousness has been transferred into a synthetic body – enter the wreckage. There they discover an extraterrestrial threat of unprecedented magnitude.
Between rival corporations and new creatures
The series features two industrial giants: the legendary Weyland-Yutani and the mysterious Prodigy Corp, led by Boy Kavalier. The latter is conducting experiments on human-synthetic hybrids nicknamed Lost Boys.
Besides the formidable xenomorphs, Alien: Earth also introduces the T. Ocellus, a new creature designed with Wētā Workshop, promising terrifying and spectacular scenes.
A solid and promising cast
Sydney Chandler (seen in Pistol) plays the heroine Wendy, alongside Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, David Rysdahl and Babou Ceesay. The production benefits from the know-how of Noah Hawley, while Ridley Scott supervises as executive producer. The original soundtrack, by Jeff Russo, promises an oppressive atmosphere faithful to the DNA of the saga.
An already laudatory critical reception
With 93% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes And 87% on Metacritic, Alien: Earth is already attracting the international press. The Guardian hails “a touch of freshness in the complex universe of the franchise”, while Variety talks about a “terrifying and surprising” series. This critical success confirms that, almost 50 years after its birth, the universe Alien always knows how to reinvent himself.
