Streisand effect, all that…
For a few days, Splitgate Arena Reloaded is especially talked about because its attendance figures on Steam have been highlighted in the press. Despite its change of identity and its new launch, the game does not seem to be able to attract many people on PC, despite a free-to-play model. A fact which is today the subject of a new press release from 1047 Games.
The studio has indeed chosen to speak out on these figuresnot to introspect (although he could also have not reacted to this subject), but to tell us that they are not totally representative:
“ Steam figures do not reflect gaming pleasure. They only show one data, on one platform. They don’t give a complete picture or sense of the gaming experience, and they completely ignore the community that actively helps shape Arena Reloaded (including upcoming content like Arena Royale). Over the past six months, we’ve completely rebuilt Splitgate because we believe in this game, in our team, and in our community. The 1047 team remains committed to delivering the best possible version of Splitgate. To our incredible community: thank you. Your feedback and passion have helped make Arena Reloaded a better game. To everyone who hasn’t played yet: Arena Reloaded is free, the gameplay is better than ever… Many passionate people have worked very hard on it. »
And there is truth in that. The Steam figures remain an indicator, and the game’s performance is perhaps better on consoles, while the reviews collected on the Valve platform are rather good. But there is not so much a question of a value judgment here and the quality of the game has not been called into question. If relying solely on Steam figures offers an incomplete picture, it is clear that this is the platform of choice for an arena shooter. While seeing a recently relaunched free-to-play with a huge update attract so few people on Steam shows that there is probably a problem herewhich should not be ignored in this way.
