The PS6 is starting to take shape, and it will cost less than expected

Sony is keeping its cards close when it comes to PlayStation 6its future next-generation console. No visuals, no official announcement, barely a few clues distilled in a video dedicated to the evolution of the hardware… However, some information suddenly revives all the speculations: the launch price would have leakedand it’s nowhere near as over-the-top as fans feared.

According to several sources close to the industry relayed by the YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Deadthere PS6 would retail for around £800 in the United Kingdom, or around €920 in direct conversion, with an all-digital version and a modular disc player option to add separately.

A high price, but consistent with the PlayStation 5 Pro

Of course, the sum seems steep at first glance. But she is a continuation of the current pricing strategy from Sony. There PS5 Proexpected in the coming weeks, is already priced around £700 across the Channel. The PlayStation 6 would therefore only be £100 more expensivewhile bringing a complete generation of new hardware features.

Enough to reassure those who have skips the Pro and await a real technological leap. On the other hand, recent buyers of the PS5 Pro may cringe: the generation gap could turn out to be faster than expected.

A modular console, more flexible… and more strategic

One of the most interesting aspects of this leak concerns the disk driveFrom now on sold separately. This approach modular would allow Sony to reduce the price of entry for players who are fans of everything dematerialized, while leaving the door open to physical purchase later.

A smart choice, already experienced on certain PS5 models, and which should strengthen business agility of the brand at the time of launch. Fewer manufacturing constraints, more flexibility on the consumer side.

On the Xbox side, the first estimates make one cringe

Sony fans aren’t the only ones looking for the slightest clues: Microsoft is also preparing its future Xboxwith an estimated release around 2027. But according to the same sources, the new console from the American firm could cross an even higher price thresholdwithout guaranteeing sufficient content exclusivity.

In this battle of the giants, Sony therefore seems to take a psychological head start by better controlling the pricing expectations of its customers – even if the official announcement remains to come.

A real price war on the horizon?

Next-gen consoles are getting more and more expensive, and gamers are feeling it. Hardware evolves, components explode, and publishers no longer hesitate to come close to the €1,000 with additional accessories and storage.

It remains to be seen whether the market will follow. Because if the PS6 is launched at a more “reasonable” price than feared, it could attract a wider audience from day one – especially if the competition bogs down with even more aggressive prices.
