While the PS5 And Xbox Series are approaching six years, the next generation is already starting to take shape. New leaks around the PS6 speak not only of an advanced release, but also of a function close to the Smart Delivery of Xbox.
At the heart of this information, we find the leaker Moore’s Law is Deadwhich evokes a PS6 in two formats, living room and portable, and a system called PlayGo. Behind these technical terms potentially lies the way in which Sony wants to manage the transition between PS4, PS5 and future PS6. And it could happen sooner than expected.
PS6 closer than expected: what do the new leaks really say?
According to Moore’s Law is Deadthere PS6 would be available as a home console and a portable machine. This nomadic version would be based on the energy saving mode of the PS5which would serve as a technical basis to ensure the compatibility of games between the two generations. Internal documents mention a CPU with 4 Zen 6c cores for gaming and 2 low-consumption Zen 6 cores dedicated to system tasks.
The energy saving mode of the PS5 is even described as a sort of “Trojan horse” for this future laptop, acting as a compatibility layer rather than a simple eco-friendly setting. Another key point: this “energy saving” profile now has its own assets in the development tools, a treatment normally reserved for a real hardware platform.
PlayGo, Xbox-style Smart Delivery preparing for the PS6?
Sony integrated a new function called PlayGo in the SDK of the PS5. Concretely, it allows studios to create separate packs for each target: PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, PS5 Pro and power saving mode. So far, a game PS5 systematically included the textures and assets planned for PS5 Proeven on the base model.
With PlayGothe idea is similar to that of Smart Delivery of Xbox : each console downloads only what it needs. For the gamer, this potentially means lighter downloads, less space taken up on the SSD, and a smoother transition if a PS6 cell phone arrives. The same license could thus be intelligently adapted between PS4, PS5, PS5 Pro and future PS6.
Portable PS6, release window and price: should you already review your purchasing plans?
Several reports placed the PS6 around 2028, or even later, due to the cost of memory. The new elements around the laptop based on energy saving mode and PlayGo instead suggest a window at the end of 2027 – beginning of 2028, which would slightly shorten the cycle compared to the most cautious scenarios. Nothing official, but technical signals show that Sony already preparing for the aftermath PS5.
On the price side, the leaker KeplerL2 estimates the cost of the components of the PS6 around 760 dollars, and judges “still possible” a public price of 699 dollars, or around 650 to 700 euros depending on the market. Other voices imagine a console between 900 and 1000 dollars. At this point, everything remains very speculative. For a player still on PS4a PS5 or a future PS5 Pro will therefore remain a relevant option in 2025, while those already equipped with PS5 can afford to wait to see if the PS6 and its in-house “Smart Delivery” are confirmed.
