The interpreters of the three protagonists tell us more about the characters of the Pearl Abyss game

Discover the voices of the main trio

In this long article concerning dubbing (which is interesting to read, especially in the current climate), the main performers of Crimson Desert detail the way in which they worked while giving some details on the trio that we will follow in game. We start with Alec Newman, who will lend his voice to Kliff here. An actor that you will recognize if you have played in original version Cyberpunk 2077 (Adam Smasher), who explains here that Kliff is the character he has played the longest due to the number of years it took to produce the game:

“It’s the character I’ve played for the longest time,” he says. [Ça a été] extraordinary to witness this evolution […] I have to admit that I will miss playing Kliff. We were linked for almost five years, on and off. It’s strange to think that it’s over, and that the whole world will discover Kliff and his fights through Pywel. »

He also explains how he came to find the right voice for this character, inspired by that of his deceased father-in-law:

By imagining him as a Scotsman, I was able to better identify some of his traits and attitudes, such as his natural tendency toward skepticism and vigilance. […] He [son beau-père] had a deep voice, which sometimes sounded like a growl. It’s a lower register than my normal voice, but it brings an attitude that seemed to work for Kliff. His voice conveyed a certain danger, but also immense warmth and a sense of loyalty. I hope that by taking inspiration from his voice for Kliff, he will continue to exist in some way. »

Newman also discusses Kliff’s character, which has more nuances than the in-game videos can show:

Kliff is naturally quite cynical and acerbic, but during the recording we had the opportunity to see other sides of his personality… He is capable of expressing a lot of emotion, not just aggression or ferocity. The sense of family that exists between him and the other Gray Manes likely represents Kliff’s emotional backbone. »

And precisely, speaking of the Gray Manes, Oongka’s character is never far away. This second playable character is here played by Stewart Scudamorewho did some vocals in Baldur’s Gate 3 (Yurgir) and some Assassin’s Creedas well asArcana (Sneer). Often for well-built characters, like the imposing Oongka, also described as “ acerbic and laconic »:

He speaks little, but not because he feels nothing. He speaks little because his words are carefully considered. I deeply admire this kind of restraint of not being too expressive and thinking before acting. »

Last member of the trio, Rebecca Hanssen, who doubles Damiane. An actress who especially made people talk about her in 2024 with the release of Stellar Bladewhere she plays EVE, but who also played in Baldur’s Gate 3 (Alfira). Damiane will visibly “ a woman on the run who meets the Gray Manes after leaving her home in Demeniss ”, which will have strong values:

I naturally tend to want to make everyone agree, but it was incredibly cathartic to tap into my sense of justice by overtaking Damiane. Instead of being polite and well-mannered, she is strong, independent and confident. She’s not afraid to speak her mind or do what she believes is right. »

Crimson Desert will be available from March 19 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
