The Hunt for Gollum: a Lord of the Rings casting that borders on flawless?
At the controls, Andy Serkis directs the film while rediscovering his role as Gollum after Peter Jackson’s two trilogies. Jamie Dornan as Aragorn in The Hunt for Gollum: logical choice or casting error?

Ultimately, the role falls to Jamie Dornanrevealed to the general public by Fifty Shades of Gray then greeted in Belfast or the series The Fall. He will take on a younger Aragorn, still known as Strider, a solitary ranger who roams Middle-earth before assuming his destiny as king.
Why not call Viggo Mortensen, 67, back? The film takes place years before The Fellowship of the RingWarner Bros judged that a massive digital rejuvenation would be too expensive and visually risky. The studio preferred a complete recast, more coherent for a character who must spend the film chasing Gollum and survive in the wilds.
The choice of Jamie Dornan is not so incongruous: the actor has already played tormented and ambiguous characters, a profile which can fit with an Aragorn still torn between his life as a ranger and his royal heritage. It remains to be seen whether he will succeed in forgetting the now iconic performance of Viggo Mortensen in the hearts of fans.
