The end of an era, after 27 years on the air
The announcement may surprise given that the Game One channel was still profitable. Even if it suffered from changing consumption patterns, Game One still made enough money according to people interviewed by BFM Tech&Co, collecting 2 million euros in net profits.
However, the channel would today be a victim of its owner, Paramount Global, which is on the verge of merging with Skydance. Which leads to a complete restructuring of the group, and Game One would obviously be one of the victims, despite its surprisingly stable financial situation for a channel which is not accessible to everyone and whose audience has changed over the years.
No official announcement has yet been made, and it is unknown when the broadcast will be stopped, although BFM Tech&Co brings forward the period to the end of November. A thought to all the people who will be affected by this decision, while a page is definitively turned in the French audiovisual landscape, after 27 years on the air.
