Developed by Weappy Studio and published by THQ Nordic, The Eternal Life of Goldman presents itself as an entirely hand-drawn 2D platform game. It must be said that it made an impression when it was announced in 2024 during the THQ showcase with its particularly eye-catching aesthetic. As a reminder, we play Goldman, an atypical old man far from the classic heroes. Armed with a simple cane, he will have to explore a mysterious archipelago and face numerous dangers.
One of the central elements of the gameplay relies on Goldman’s cane, which turns out to be much more versatile than it seems. It allows you to reach high platforms, attack or bounce off enemies. Thanks to it, you will also be able to manipulate objects, create special effects like flashes of light and defend yourself with a form of shield.
According to the studio, this system offers a wide variety of approaches in the platforming and combat phases. The Xbox Partner Preview Showcase was also the opportunity to observe a new gameplay trailer in order to discover more about its universe and its mechanics.
While waiting for the full release, you can already get an idea of the game. A playable demo is available now on Xbox Series X|S. The game is also planned for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC. No release date yet, but it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
