SUNRISE and SHAFT announce first joint anime project

The two anime studios SUNRISE and SHAFT are working together on an anime project for the first time in their history – and the official announcement should be made in just a few days. We summarize the details known so far.

Announcement in a few days

To get in the mood for the announcement, an official X account was opened, where new illustrations will be gradually published as part of a multi-day countdown. The full reveal is scheduled for June 24, 2026 at 12:30 a.m. Japan time (June 23, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in Germany).

The motifs shown so far are so-called color scripts, which provide a first impression of the atmosphere and visual direction of the new anime. You can find the previous pictures under these lines.

SUNRISE is one of the best-known anime studios in Japan and is known for titles such as “Mobile Suit Gundam”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “Code Geass”, “Gintama”, “Love Live!” and “InuYasha”.

SHAFT, on the other hand, is particularly well respected for its distinctive visual style and in recent years has produced works such as “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, the “Monogatari” series and “March Comes in Like a Lion”.

It is still unclear what story the new project will tell, what format it will appear in and which employees will be involved. Of course we will keep you updated.
