Study: »One Piece« fans are significantly older than the actual target group

A current study shows that not only the “One Piece” franchise itself, but also its audience is clearly getting older – and is no longer in the actual target group. We summarize.

Fans have long since grown up

The relevant findings were published a few days ago in the Japanese “Nikkei Entertainment!” magazine. The results of a study by Architect Inc. were presented under the heading “Oshikatsu MAP,” which deals with the demographics and activities of fans of various pop cultures.

After the answers collected from a total of 4,400 participants between the ages of 10 and 69 were evaluated, the average age of a “One Piece” fan from Japan was estimated at 38 years – even though the popular “Shonen Jump” work is actually aimed at teenagers and young adults.

However, this should come as no surprise since the first chapter of the manga series was published on July 22, 1997, more than 28 years ago. Since then, fans have grown along with the franchise, turning childhood dreams into adult adventures over time.

The Straw Hat family may be getting older, but their passion remains unchanged. How old are you and how long have you been with One Piece? Please let us know!
