The offer is so generous that you almost want to check the date. For a few hours, 12 new free games are to be recovered from Steamand according to the first feedback, the majority seems frankly correct. This is rare enough to be noted.
The list comes from account X (ex-Twitter) Free Steam Gamesknown for spotting free gems in the jungle of Valve’s store. And for once, it’s not just another batch of poorly finished clones. Some titles even have very positive reviews.
Free Steam games of the moment to discover
Here are the 12 free games available at the end of October, classified according to their potential or originality.
- Dragon Ace Casino : fairly complete casino simulator with poker, blackjack and baccarat. The interface is clean, but there is a bit too blatant use of AI-generated content. The least convincing of the selection.
- Meowment : a strong visual homage to Limbocat version. The style is neat, and the gameplay seems solid despite its very visible inspiration.
- Galaxy Card Game : PvP card game by FOGMOE. Highly rated, but the interface is a bit dated. Still enjoyable for fans of the genre.
- Gogyō : mix of tactical strategy and turn-based maps. Beautiful but quite enigmatic. Few reviews yet, which makes it difficult to judge.
- Hock : a kind of futuristic hockey with mechanics close to an NES racing game. Fun in appearance, but graphically basic.
- Brawlers of the West: Prologue : totally crazy physics-based fighting game. The animations are shaky, but the humor and fun take over.
- Game for Aliens : rogue-like seen from above inspired by Vampire Survivors. More fun to play than its appearance would suggest.
- Beep and Bop : 3D platformer in co-op only. Inventive, but still a little buggy. To watch if the developers fix quickly.
- Beer Machine : absurd horror adventure where you have to “go get a beer for your father”. Weird concept, but very well received despite its short duration.
- TERPENIE : scary walking simulator in a room setting where something is wrong. Very successful PS1 atmosphere.
- The Roach Hotel : retro CRT aesthetic and gloomy atmosphere. A real visual and audio trip, for those who like oddities.
- Mobile Murder Mystery : mysterious visual novel that recalls Serial Experiments Lain. Very well rated and praised for its atmosphere.
A more qualitative Steam selection than usual
What is striking about this selection is the global level. Usually, half of free titles are forgettable. This time, even the less good ones remain intriguing. The best have “very positive” ratings, and several could well become references in the indie scene.
Developers rely on free to attract attention before a possible paid version, or simply to make their style known. If you’re curious, or looking for a surprise, you’re bound to find a game to your liking this week on Steam.
