Imagine booting up your PS5 or PS6 and being greeted not by a static menu, but by the voice of an iconic character speaking directly to you. Kratos telling you the day’s releases, Ellie giving you advice on a game you’ve just installed… No, it’s not a sleep-deprived gamer’s hallucination. This is what Sony is concretely considering, thanks to new generative AI technology presented in a recently published patent.
This unique project is based on a simple principle: using the most popular characters from the PlayStation universe as a voice for personalized audio content. Everything would be automatically generated via deepfake voice systems, capable of imitating the official voices of the heroes.
Generative AI at the heart of tomorrow’s console
The technical document, spotted by the media Tech4Gamers, details a technology that could radically transform the interaction between the player and their console. Like an intelligent voice assistant, this AI would not be limited to responding to commands: it would create content. Including à la carte audio podcasts, focused on current events, recent games, or recaps of your in-game activities.
Sony explains it in black and white in its patent: “AI models are used to create personalized news podcasts, which a gamer might find interesting”. This ultra-individualized approach could allow each player to have a completely different experience depending on their tastes, their gaming history or even their connection time.
Kratos, Ellie or Aloy… like you’ve never heard them before
Where this concept stands out from a simple voice assistant is in the emotion and attachment that players already feel towards these characters. Sony is not content with a generic robot: the objective is to use the voices, intonations and even the personality of the emblematic figures of its licenses.
According to the patent, these podcasts could relay information, interact with the player, or even simulate discussions between characters. “These podcasts could present news in the voice of a well-known character, tailored to the profile of a particular player.” A bit like a post-credits scene or bonus dialogue, each session could offer a unique audio surprise.
From the technical dream to the possible future of the PS6
Should we believe it? That’s the whole question. Sony regularly files patents before deciding whether or not to implement them. But this precise document, published at a strategic time (while the PS6 is entering development), shows that the publisher is seriously thinking about enriching the user experience thanks to AI.
A few months ago, another patent already mentioned an AI capable of playing in the player’s place in the event of a blockage. This new functionality would go further, by establishing a continuous narrative relationship between the console and its user.
One thing is certain: if Sony pushes this project to the end, we could witness a revolution in the PlayStation ecosystem. More immersive, more interactive… and a little stranger too.
