Sony expands its PS5 catalog to PC just in time for the Steam Machine

For a long time, Sony has been reluctant to share its flagship exclusives beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. But in 2026, the trend is clear: the opening to the PC platform, particularly via Steam, is accelerating. This strategy allows PC gamers to access some of the best PlayStation titles without having to invest in a console.

This strategic move coincides with the rise of the Steam Machine, Valve’s new device aimed at directly competing with traditional consoles. The timing is not trivial, and Sony seems to want to mark its territory, even on Valve’s ground.

Less exclusive exclusives… for the better?

It is now common for Sony to wait a year before porting its games to PC. This window makes it possible to maximize sales on PS5, while then expanding the audience thanks to Steam. The next game announced? Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Soulsavailable soon on Steam.

The rumor is also growing around Death Stranding 2which could be one of the next big titles to make the crossing. A strategy that players welcome rather well, if we are to believe the reactions on Reddit: “The fact that they can observe the performance of exclusives on other platforms, AND THEY STILL DON’T GIVE US BLOODBORNE”, quips a frustrated user. “They could sell it for $89.99 and it would sell like hotcakes,” adds another comment, reflecting the wait around certain cult games still absent from the PC catalog.

Figures that speak for themselves

Sony has sold more than 43 million copies of its PC games, generating approximately $1.5 billion since the launch of this strategy. Results that are difficult to dispute, which should convince even the most skeptical within the Japanese company.

The strategy also makes it possible to optimize returns on investment from costly development, while extending the commercial lifespan of games well beyond their initial console cycle.

And after? Steam Machine, cross-save and new expectations

With the arrival of the Steam Machine, the platform war is evolving. The market is no longer limited to Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo: Valve is entering the fray with a device capable of running PC games in a format close to a home console.

But for players, the issue is no longer limited to availability. They also demand modern features, like cross-progression. One of them explains: “I Helldiverse 2 on Steam and PS5, but since PS5 is my main console, I rarely play the Steam version because you have to start all over again. »

Words revealing a need for unification between platforms, which could well be the next challenge for Sony.
