Sony animation studio CloverWorks is once again in the red


The anime studio CloverWorks once again reported a loss for the past financial year. We summarize the most important details.

Higher loss than last year

The current annual report shows that CloverWorks ended the 2025 financial year (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026) with a net loss of around 38.5 million yen (the equivalent of around 209,000 euros). In the same period last year, the loss was around 24.4 million yen (around 132,000 euros).

As of March 31, 2026, the company’s assets amounted to around 3.07 billion yen (around 16.6 million euros). Despite the reported loss, equity remained at around 578 million yen (3.1 million euros).

The studio’s best-known productions include “Kaoru and Rin”, “My Dress-Up Darling”, “Bocchi the Rock!”, “WIND BREAKER” and the “Rascal Does Not Dream” series with two series and three films to date.

There are also several new projects in the works, including the second seasons of “Bocchi the Rock!” and “The Elusive Samurai,” a series adaptation of “The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore,” the film “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend,” and a new “Evangelion” anime in collaboration with khara.

CloverWorks was spun off from the animation studio A-1 Pictures on October 1, 2018 and is part of the Sony Group under Aniplex.
