Since November 14, a newcomer has been attracting all eyes on PS5. It is about Where Winds Meetan open-world role-playing game developed by Everstone Studios and published by NetEase Games. Available for free on the PlayStation Store, this title transports players to 10th century China, at the helm of a young master of arms embarked on a quest for identity and mysticism.
From its first hours, the game was a massive success. On Steam, it reached an impressive peak of 193,860 players connected simultaneously, rising to 8th place among the most played games, behind behemoths like Apex Legends Or Counter-Strike 2. On the PS5 side, the title already has more than 10,300 user reviews, an exceptional score for a game launched so recently.
Shared opinions despite massive enthusiasm
But is this success synonymous with quality? On Steam, Where Winds Meet garners a 79% approval rating based on 6,284 reviews. On the PlayStation Store, the average rating reaches 3.81 out of 5. Respectable scores, but which also reveal a form of division among players.
The free nature of the game partly explains this disparity. Unlike paid titles, which often attract an already convinced audience, free games are tested by a wider range of players, with very varied expectations. This diversity of experiences is reflected in the reviews, oscillating between sincere enthusiasm and technical frustration.
In terms of praise, the graphics and the fluidity of the gameplay are particularly praised. Several players compare it to prestigious titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Naraka: Bladepoint, Ghost of Tsushima or even Assassin’s Creed. Conversely, some criticisms target the integrated gacha system, considered laborious and sometimes discouraging in progression.
Unplayable on PS5 Pro, a shame for exclusivity
Big surprise: Where Winds Meet is not optimized for PS5 Pro. A situation that annoys many players, especially for a game supposed to highlight the technical capabilities of the Sony console. Despite the wait and the excitement, there is currently no indication that this incompatibility will be corrected.
This lack of support is part of a broader trend: the PS5 Pro, although more powerful, often remains poorly exploited by recent games. For players who have invested in this high-end version, Where Winds Meet might just be one of the worst titles to review this month.
