Free-to-play games continue to grow in popularity on PlayStation 5, and Konami just added a new one to the list. The Japanese publisher recently launched eBaseball: Pro Spirit on the PlayStation Store, a free-to-play baseball game that is already making waves among players.
The announcement went relatively unnoticed at the time of its release. However, this title from the Professional Baseball Spirits franchise could well attract virtual sports fans who are looking for an alternative to more expensive baseball simulations like MLB The Show.
A free PS5 game available on the PlayStation Store
Available now on PS5, eBaseball: Pro Spirit can be downloaded for free from the PlayStation Store. The game adopts a free-to-play model, which means players can try it without spending any money.
An important point concerns the PlayStation Plus subscription. Unlike many multiplayer games, you don’t need a subscription to play offline.
So players can enjoy the game solo at no extra cost. The PS Plus subscription only becomes necessary to access online multiplayer modes allowing you to compete against other players.
A graphics engine designed to enhance realism
Konami highlights the technology used to bring its baseball games to life. The game is based on the eBaseball Engine, a graphics engine specially designed to improve the realism of the experience.
The publisher explains: “Every movement and sound in the stadium comes to life with stunning realism. From the trajectory of the ball, to the intense actions of the players, to the explosion of joy of the crowd, every moment is recreated with incredible force.”
This engine aims to reproduce the atmosphere of a baseball stadium with greater precision, notably thanks to detailed animations and immersive sound effects.
Very positive first reviews on PlayStation Store
Despite a fairly discreet release, the first feedback from players seems encouraging. On the PlayStation Store, eBaseball: Pro Spirit already has a rating close to four stars out of five.
This rating is based on around 90 verified reviews at the time of writing, which reflects a rather favorable reception from early players.
The PC version of the game is also receiving positive feedback on Steam. The first evaluations published on the platform indicate a generally favorable reception after several dozen reviews.
A free alternative to paid baseball simulations
With this free launch, Konami seems to want to attract a wider audience to its Professional Baseball Spirits franchise. The game offers an accessible alternative to paid sports simulations, often sold at a high price.
For PS5 players who want to try a baseball game without investing in premium production, eBaseball: Pro Spirit may therefore be an interesting option.
However, Konami has not yet announced a release date for a possible Xbox version. For now, PlayStation players remain the main beneficiaries of this new free title.
