When ten people are talking at the same time during a game of Battlefield 6, it can be difficult to follow the conversation. Good news for PS5 players: a system update finally adds the “Show who is speaking” option, already well known to Xbox and Discord users.

The icon of the friend currently speaking will now appear in the corner of the screen during voice chat discussions. A simple improvement, but highly anticipated in long squad sessions. This feature is currently reserved for members of the PlayStation beta program, although some report that they do not yet have access to it despite having registered.

A simple improvement that everyone agrees with

The idea is not revolutionary, but it meets a real need for rapid identification during multiplayer games. Xbox has offered this option for years, as has Discord. PlayStation was therefore lagging behind in this area.

This option should be generalized to all users in the next official PS5 firmware update. No precise timetable has been announced, but the integration into the beta suggests a deployment in the coming weeks.

An update which is part of a series of new PS5 features

This new vocal feature joins other announcements made during Sony’s latest State of Play. Among them, a new DLC for Elden Ring entitled Nightreign, but also the presentation of a screen specially designed for the PS5. This allows you to recharge your controllers thanks to an integrated charging station, while benefiting from a display optimized for games like The Last of Us.

This dynamic confirms that Sony continues to improve the user experience, catching up with certain features of its main competitor while expanding its own ecosystem.
