It’s hard to keep a secret in the Pokémon universe. As Pokémon Legends: ZA prepares to be released, a leak relayed by Centro Leaks is already shaking the community. According to several alleged documents from Game Freak, the tenth generation of the franchise could be titled “Pokémon Winds and Waves”, and mark a major evolution in the history of the saga.
This information would come from internal documents dating from 2020. If their age leaves doubt about the accuracy of the details, they still provide a credible overview of what the future of Pokémon could be. Among the notable revelations: an open world with an MMO-type central area, a region inspired by Southeast Asia, and compatibility exclusively reserved for the future Switch 2.
A region inspired by Southeast Asia and an ever-changing world
The documents speak of a new, unexplored region, shaped after the landscapes of Indonesia and its neighbors. But this is not the only geographical novelty. The game would introduce a system of procedurally generated islands, bringing endless combinations of exploration. A way to express the thematic heart of the game: infinity.
The story of this tenth generation would focus on more philosophical notions. According to the leaks, the story would address new subjects for the license, such as intergenerational transmission, with this sentence extracted from one of the documents: “parental responsibility and children’s rights, continually transmitted through the ages”. The player would thus be confronted with his educational choices and their consequences on the world to come.
Legendary Pokémon guided by wind and waves
At the heart of this narrative, two new legendary Pokémon would embody the natural elements and educational values of the region. One is linked to wind, the other to water.
“The Storm Pack Pokémon. Its role is that of an old man. It lives on an island that keeps humans away. It has the power of the wind to correctly guide humans and Pokémon. It only accepts humans who have correctly raised the Seed Pokémon.”
“The Wave Pack Pokémon. Its role is that of an old woman. It lives on an island that keeps humans away. It has the power of waves to correctly guide humans and Pokémon. It only accepts humans who have correctly raised the Seed Pokémon.”
The “Seed Pokémon” seems to be a new central concept: it would refer to any Pokémon in its first form, without evolution. But here, it could evolve in multiple ways depending on the education provided by the player. The document mentions a “infinity of variations” in this evolution, suggesting that the success of the scenario could depend on the care given to this companion.
An expected release on the Switch 2, far from the current console
Finally, the documents specify that Pokémon Winds and Waves would be developed exclusively for the Switch 2. It would be the first main generation of the saga not to be released on the original Nintendo console, thus marking a real technological breakthrough.
Note: these leaks initially indicated a release in 2025, while Pokémon Legends: ZA was supposed to arrive in 2024. However, ZA comes out this week. Proof that the calendar may have been modified since 2020, and that all information must be taken with caution.
Neither Nintendo nor Game Freak have yet publicly reacted to these revelations. But if these documents prove reliable, Pokémon Gen 10 could be the most ambitious episode ever imagined.
