A month after its release, Pokémon Legends: ZA continues to evolve with a first important patch. Available today on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, version 1.0.2 of the adventure game from Game Freak brings several fixes, mainly focused on bugs related to Mega Evolutions and secondary missions.
But it is above all the changes made to the ranked mode that attract the attention of players. As Season 2 has just begun, the points system has been revised to provide smoother progression.
Mega Evolutions, blocked missions and capture bugs: patch fixes
The patch notes released on November 6 reveal several important fixes. Certain situations literally prevented you from catching a Pokémon or completing side missions:
- If the player had not opened the box screen before a first Mega Evolution fight while the box was full, the capture systematically failed.
- A day/night change combined with an attack during a mission could make the target impossible to hit, blocking any progress.
- If a Pokémon is switched by an opposing trainer in the middle of Mega Evolution, the battle may not continue.
Other undetailed bugs have also been fixed, according to the developers.
Major change to Ranked Battles and Mega Rewards
This patch also changes how competitive ranking works. Until now, certain results could cause points to be lost depending on the outcome of the match. From now on, the system has been revised: points are no longer reduced based on victory or defeat.
The Pokémon Company had already announced that exclusive rewards for ranked mode, including Mega Stones for Mega Greninja, Mega Delphox and Mega Chesnaught, would be more accessible from this season 2. This patch goes in this direction, with the addition of new rewards for each battle, the exact nature of which has not yet been specified.
Please note: online features require this latest version. Playing in local communication between different versions is no longer compatible.
A DLC approaching? Nintendo teases Mega Dimension
This patch arrives the same day a trailer is expected for the future DLC Mega Dimensionannounced by Nintendo. Broadcast at 3 p.m. (French time), this additional content could expand the universe of Pokémon Legends: ZA with new areas and mechanics focused on Mega Evolutions.
Sold nearly 6 million copies in one week, the game received a very positive reception. IGN wrote upon its release: The adventure finally gives the impression that Game Freak has found its way into the 3D era of Pokémon, with a captivating universe to explore, a well-written story and a completely redesigned battle system that works wonderfully.
With this first update, Pokémon Legends: ZA asserts its ambitions online. It remains to be seen if Mega Dimension will reinforce this dynamic, or upset the newly established balances.
