Pokémon GO: level 80 arrives with an avalanche of rewards and a new progression system

Nearly ten years after its launch, Pokémon GO continues to evolve. Niantic has just announced a complete overhaul of its progression system, with a major new feature: “Starting October 15, Pokémon GO will increase the Trainer level cap from 50 to 80, providing more levels to earn.” A decision that will transform the experience of regular players, but also allow newcomers to level up more quickly.

The goal of this update is clear: to make progression smoother, more rewarding, and punctuated with visible rewards. The experience curve has been rebalanced, and leveling tasks have been redesigned. More good news: no player will lose any progress. “The amount of XP you have earned so far will be applied to the rebalanced progression curve to determine your new Trainer level.” Niantic specifies that “No one will see their level decrease, and all players level 23 or above will see their level increase.”

Rewards, rare items and new clothing up to level 80

With this increase in the ceiling, Niantic is introducing a series of new rewards to unlock every five levels, starting at level 25. Players will be able to obtain new avatar clothing such as caps, jackets or shoes bearing the image of Poké Balls, level-themed objects (such as glasses or exclusive poses), as well as increased storage capacity.

Among the emblematic awards:

  • Level 25: Poké Ball cap
  • Level 40: large cap
  • Level 50: Super Ball Jacket
  • Level 65: Hyper Ball Jacket
  • Level 75: Level 75 pants
  • Level 77: Level 77 Pose
  • Level 79: hairstyles (short and long)
  • Level 80: Level 80 Jacket

A surprise daily egg and new level research

Alongside these rewards, a new item appears: “The Daily Adventure Egg will be automatically given after logging in at the start of a new day. It hatches after 1 km and gives 10,000 XP.” A simple way to boost your experience gain effortlessly, from level 15.

Finally, the famous “Level-Up Research” missions are also revised. Those from levels 41 to 50 disappear. They will be replaced by new quests specific to levels 71 to 80, to continue progressing without incident.

On the figures side, it will now be necessary to accumulate 203,353,000 XP to reach level 80. An impressive figure, but much more accessible thanks to the new curve. Especially since there is no shortage of events to quickly earn XP: the Harvest Festival runs until October 16, Halloween begins on the 21st, and a special event linked to Pokémon Legends: ZA begins on October 16.
