Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series begins filming and reveals its cast

Nothing is true, “tudum” is allowed

A few days ago, Netflix shared part of the cast for its Assassin’s Creed series. If for us, the surprise was big with the addition of the French comedian Ramzy Bedia, the casting brings together a lot of well-known actors and actresses in the industry, but also new faces. We now know much more about the contours of this new production.

First of all, the series will take place in Rome in 64 AD., a period marked by strong political and social tensions under the Roman Empire. Too bad for those who were hoping for a return of our favorite Italian, Ezio Auditore, to the mention of the Italian capital. Note, however, that this context fits perfectly into the DNA of the franchise which is known for revisiting key moments in History through the conflict between Assassins and Templars. We imagine that the famous fire which forged the macabre legend of Nero will undoubtedly be part of it.

Netflix and Ubisoft have also made a large part of the casting official. We will find in particular:

  • Tony Wallace
  • Lola Petticrew
  • Noomi Rapace
  • Claes Bang
  • Sean Harris
  • Ramzy Bedia

The series is overseen by Roberto Patino and David Wiener, both Emmy Award nominees and known for their work on series like Westworld and Halo.. The creators describe the project as an intense thriller, focusing on the conflict between the two secret factions, but also as a work exploring deeper themes like identity, faith, power and human connections across time.

We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this series, we come away both excited and humbled by the possibilities this universe offers.

In addition to Wiener and Patino, executive producers include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones for Ubisoft Film & Television, as well as Matt O’Toole.

Hoping that the project will be much more ambitious and successful than the 2016 film with Michael Fassbender.
