After the success of its first season, Devil May Cry returns this Tuesday, May 12, 2026 on Netflix. Adapted from Capcom’s cult license, the animated series surprised with its nervous staging and its more elaborate writing than expected. Eight new episodes are now available at midnight Pacific Time.
Netflix is thus continuing its strategy of adapting strong franchises from video games, such as Tomb Raider or Resident Evil. This time again, it is the world of Dante, a demon hunter with iconic phlegm, which is at the center of the intrigue. But season 2 moves the conflict to a more intimate terrain.
Dante facing Vergil, a family clash at the heart of the plot
The new season opens with the return of Vergil, the twin brother thought lost. Far from a simple spectacular twist, the series constructs this face-to-face like an old fracture that resurfaces. The two heirs of Sparda find themselves on opposing sides, against a backdrop of war between humans and demons.
Studio Mir, already praised for its work on X-Men 97 and DOTA, strengthens the visual identity of the series. The choreographies oppose a more instinctive Dante to a disciplined, almost military Vergil. Each fight underlines this divergence of trajectory between the two brothers.
The voice casting remains solid. Johnny Yong Bosch reprises the role of Dante, while Robbie Daymond joins the cast to play Vergil. Scout Taylor-Compton continues her role as Mary and Hoon Lee returns as White Rabbit.
Adi Shankar and the Bootleg Multiverse are gaining momentum
At the helm, we find Adi Shankar, creator and showrunner already behind Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk. His ambition goes beyond a simple faithful adaptation of the game. With Devil May Cry, he is developing a connected universe, often referred to as the Bootleg Multiverse.
Season 2 abandons the mission structure specific to games to favor family dynamics. The Devil Arms system or the iconic style counter give way to an intrigue centered on the legacy of the Sparda twins. The tension no longer rests solely on the demons to be slain, but on the divide between two brothers who are completely opposed.
A season 3 already confirmed by Netflix
A strong sign of confidence, Netflix has already validated a third season even before the broadcast of this second round of episodes. A decision which confirms the positive reception received by the series and its long-term potential.
New viewers can enter directly through this season 2, while the first remains available on the platform for those who wish to delve into the origins of the conflict. With eight episodes at once and a highly anticipated central confrontation, Devil May Cry confirms its lasting installation in Netflix’s animated catalog.
