The US film distributor GKIDS recently announced that the Studio Ghibli classic “Kiki’s Little Delivery Service” will return to the big screen in a revised version. We summarize.
Cinema release in March 2026
The US theatrical release of the edited 4K version of “Kiki’s Little Delivery Service” is planned for March 13, 2026, with selected cinemas also showing the approximately 115-minute-long film in IMAX format.
It is currently unclear whether there will be screenings outside the USA, but “Princess Mononoke” recently received a restored 4K and IMAX version, which has been shown in Germany since February 12, 2026.
“Kiki’s Little Delivery Service” was produced under the direction of director Hayao Miyazaki (“My Neighbor Totoro”) at Studio Ghibli and celebrated its Japanese cinema premiere in July 1989. A disc release was carried out by LEONINE Anime.

According to old witch tradition, Kiki moves to a foreign city with her cat Jiji to strengthen her abilities. She finds a home with a baker’s family and starts a flight delivery service.
