Several well-known light novels, manga and anime titles from KADOKAWA will soon appear in WEBTOON format for the first time. We summarize.
New collaboration for webcomic content
A new production studio, »STUDIO WHITE«, was recently created and was launched by the media groups LINE Digital Frontier, KADOKAWA and REDICE STUDIO. The aim of the collaboration is to produce new webcomic spin-offs based on established brands and to market them worldwide.
The implementation is carried out under the direction of REDICE STUDIO (“Solo Leveling”) in WEBTOON’s typical vertical scroll format, which means that the stories are specifically adapted to modern reading habits. The works will also appear in several languages exclusively on WEBTOON and LINE Manga.
In addition to the starting project “Record of Lodoss War,” which will initially be published in Korean on May 9, 2026, other spin-offs have already been confirmed.
These include “Sword Art Online”, “Slayers” and “The Familiar of Zero”, all of which receive independent webcomic stories within the known universes. However, the dates are still pending.
With these plans, KADOKAWA is increasingly relying on international platforms and new narrative formats – although it remains to be seen whether the well-known brands can also establish themselves in the WEBTOON sector. We’ll keep you updated.
