A young agent who still knows how to put on a show
If IO Interactive wanted to tell the story of James Bond’s “youth” in 007 First Lightit is above all to present a protagonist who still has many shortcomings. A much more interesting starting point for Hakan Abrak, creative director, who didn’t necessarily want an assertive 007 who has already experienced everything :
“ The team didn’t want to create this superman from the start, where he dominates the world, where he’s hardened and battle-hardened, having experienced heartbreak, and now hides behind armor. It wasn’t necessarily interesting. »
Above all, the team wanted to avoid presenting a James Bond who would be tired of his new adventures, since he would have already experienced everything. Martin Emborg, narrative director, draws the comparison here with Dr.Nowhich revealed such a version:
“ He wins at baccarat against a beautiful woman who only dreams of taking him home. He drinks and is a little bored. It’s just another Thursday for him. That’s the whole point, right? But it’s not very endearing. »
To better make this James sympathetic to the public, IO Interactive therefore opted for a version of the character who is, certainly, confident, but inexperienced. However, we saw it in the videos: this 007 knows how to fight, and not just one step. The studio has here took example from films starring Daniel Craig, which inspired the team regarding the character’s movements. That is to say in the way he moves in the heart of the actionAbrak directly quoting the film Casino Royale:
“ We’re trying to make the experience original — but it was important that it was always moving, dynamic and acrobatic, almost like the parkour at the beginning of Casino Royale. »
007 First Light will be available from March 27, 2026 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2.
