Halo co-creator finds use of license image in recruitment message for ICE “abominable”

Developers speak out

While Microsoft sticks its head in the sand regarding this unauthorized use of license imagery Halo by the American government (we should not get angry with Trump), Marcus Letho is less afraid to express his disgust for the message related to the recruitment campaign for ICE. When asked about this by Game File, the co-creator of the series says he finds the message “ absolutely abominable ”, while adding: “ It makes me sick to see Halo being co-opted like this ».

Game File also spoke with Jaime Griesemeranother veteran who worked on the saga, says he is well aware that a license as popular as Halo is likely to be the subject of political exploitation. But if he doesn’t say he found the first images showing Trump in the Master Chief’s armor revolting, the message linked to ICE is, however, indefensible for him, regardless of the political side :

Halo is a cultural icon and, like any important cultural item, it will be used by politicians, brands and anyone looking to get noticed. Generally, I take it as a compliment to Halo’s enduring legacy […] Using Halo imagery to call for “destroying” people based on their immigration status is unconscionable and should offend all Halo fans, regardless of their political views. Personally, I find this despicable. »

Marty O’Donnellcomposer of the main theme of the saga and since dismissed (who also regularly has problems with the law) goes in the direction of the Trump government, which is not surprising given that he is a member of the Republican Party. Radio silence continues at Microsoft despite strong reactions on this subject.
