After more than 12 years of waiting, GTA 6 is preparing to land on November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games is preparing to launch one of the most anticipated games in history, but a major absence is already causing reactions: the PC version. For the moment, no computer release has been confirmed. As a result, millions of GTA 5 players could be excluded from the initial launch.
GTA 6 without PC version at launch, millions of players affected
Rockstar never mentioned a PC release for GTA 6 on its launch date. A strategy that is not new for the publisher. Historically, the studio’s games arrive first on consoles, before being adapted later on PC. An approach already observed with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
The problem is the scale of the community involved. Estimates suggest between 36 and 78 million players owning GTA 5 on PC. Even if a portion of these players also own a console, this leaves a considerable number of players unable to launch GTA 6 upon release.
Why Rockstar often delays its PC versions
This choice is based on several reasons. On the one hand, it makes it possible to optimize development and focus on consoles initially. On the other hand, this strategy also has a commercial impact. Some players choose to purchase the game a second time when it releases on PC. Take-Two Interactive has already hinted that this model remains common, and that it continues to work.
A potential PC release not before 2027
To estimate the PC release of GTA 6, you have to look at previous Rockstar games. GTA 5 experienced a 19-month delay between its console release and its PC version. Red Dead Redemption 2 took a little over a year. If GTA 6 follows the same trajectory, a release on PC could take place around the end of 2027. This deadline remains an estimate, but it corresponds to the studio’s habits.
GTA 6, an even longer wait for some players
This calendar creates a special situation. PC players are paradoxically the ones who most hope that the game will not be postponed. Each console delay would push back the PC release even further.
In the meantime, some players are already considering buying a console so as not to miss the launch. Others prefer to wait. One thing is certain: despite its announced success, GTA 6 will not be accessible to everyone from day one.
