What if Rockstar Games had slipped a nod to GTA 6 into one of its previous games? This is what some players think they discovered while digging through the Red Dead Redemption 2 files. According to them, an unexpected detail could well be a direct reference to the highly anticipated next opus.
The name of a ship, never used in the game, particularly attracts attention. A new texture, found in the game data, could reveal much more than a simple abandoned element. Enough to restart the speculation machine a few months before the planned official release of GTA 6, postponed once again to November 19, 2026.
A boat named “Leonida”, fans are getting excited
It all starts from a post relayed by the account @GameRoll_ on X/Twitter, taking up the findings of SonekaSpeedruns. According to him, an unused texture was spotted in the Red Dead Redemption 2 files. “A partially unused boat texture was discovered in the RDR2 game files.”
But that’s not all. One name in particular captured fans’ attention: “The Leonida.” “Curiously, we learn that a ship was initially called ‘The Leonida’. It seems that Rockstar initially wanted to slip a clue about GTA 6 into RDR2?”
Some see this as a deliberate nod, especially since other equally enigmatic ship names appear in the same batch. “Other ship names not used are ‘The Emily Bell’ and ‘Moses T Prescott’. I wonder if these are references to something as well?”
Rockstar remains silent, speculation mounts
For now, Rockstar Games has not confirmed any connection between these elements and GTA 6. As is often the case, the studio remains strategically silent, letting rumors spread and expectations grow.
It should be remembered that the game has already experienced several postponements. Announced in February 2022, its first trailer had set a release in 2025. It was only after a second postponement, in November 2025, that the new date of November 19, 2026 was revealed. In the meantime, Rockstar continues to support its community with content on GTA Online.
GTA Online in full swing while waiting for GTA 6
Even if GTA 6 remains the subject of all expectations, GTA Online is not left out. Rockstar recently highlighted new community series. “Join the fray in the Community Battle Series this week for triple rewards, including a new face-off between infantry and insurgents at full speed by Itsjennieduh.”
Players can also enjoy the return of transformable races with double winnings. “A selection of transformable races also return to GTA Online’s flagship series, earning double GTA$ and RP.” Enough to wait a little longer before finally discovering the well-kept secrets of Lucia Caminos and the explosive universe of GTA 6.
