Leon or Grace, it’s going to bleed
Since the announcement of Leon S. Kennedy’s presence in Resident Evil Requiemthe emphasis has already been placed at length on the duality of the experience between more action-oriented gameplay for the veteran, and a much more anxiety-provoking climate via the sequences led by Grace. The demonstration of this gap is also done again via images taken from the game.
Leon this time has a hatchet that he can use to ward offand whose effectiveness must be regularly checked by sharpening the blade. Its range of moves and finishing moves is even more extensive than in Resident Evil 4and he can pick up certain weapons dropped by zombies, including the famous chainsaw already seen. On the Grace side, another atmosphere therefore, where ammunition will be rare and the possibilities will be more restricted. The strategy here will instead revolve around whether or not to confront this or that enemy depending on the conditions.
Note, however, that, apart from the 9mm in her possession, the young woman will also get her hands on an extremely powerful revolver, the Requiem, perfect for getting out of complicated situations. But again, the bullets will be precious. Also, new related to crafting, it will be necessary to collect infected blood to create certain objects. On the zombie side, we are informed that those we meet here will adopt behaviors retained from their human lives, and that observing them carefully could well help us find more easily how to get rid of them.
Difficulty modes and information reminder
Let’s now talk about the different difficulties involved in this Resident Evil Requiem. Sensitive souls will have the joy of seeing that a sort of Story mode is designed to get you through the adventure with a minimum of tension. We will also have an assisted aiming mode. Otherwise, there will be Standard (Modern) mode, rebalancing the challenge, and above all Standard (Classic) mode intended for early fanswhere manual saves with Grace will require ink ribbons, and automatic saves will be limited.
To finish, we were treated to a very small point of lore. Because if there is duality of gameplay, the plot is shared. And on this subject, director Koshi Nakanishi said a few words about Leon’s background, which we find chronologically following the events of Resident Evil 6. He therefore still fights against bioterrorism under the function of DSO agent, and we are promised that the events of Requiem will push him to his limits.
We are coming to the end of what we noted was interesting about the little presentation, and we must admit that it was a little light even if this ninth episode continues to make us want it. We will give you the different editions, the Switch 2 controller and the announcement of an amiibo which we have already told you about previously, as well as reminders of the arrival on Switch 2 on February 27 of the last three numbered episodes of the saga or even the Day One availability via the GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform.
Resident Evil Requiem will arrive on February 27 on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2.
