Galaxy Z TriFold already sold out, Samsung’s foldable smartphone nowhere to be found after a dazzling launch

THE Galaxy Z TriFold of Samsungthe brand’s first mainstream tri-folding smartphone, is no longer available anywhere. The official sheet now describes it as a “limited series” product and “now completely sold out”, without any mention of future restocking.

Priced at $2,899 (around €3,000), this tri-folder with a format close to a 10-inch tablet, with double hinge and 16 GB of RAM, was clearly designed as a technological showcase rather than a mass model. One question remains for tech enthusiasts: how could such an exclusive device disappear from the catalog so quickly, and what does this mean for high-end foldables?

Galaxy Z TriFold: how did a €3,000 tri-folding smartphone become unobtainable so quickly?

THE Galaxy Z TriFold was launched first in South Korea on December 12, 2025, before an ultra-targeted deployment in a few markets in Asia then in the United States, after a first appearance at CES 2026. No official launch took place in France, the model remaining reserved for a few selected countries.

From the first sales, the tone was set: batches of around 3,000 units left in a few minutes, both in Korea and during the American release on January 30, 2026, as noted by several specialized sites. Each restock on the site Samsung ended in an almost instantaneous “sold out”.

In total, estimates converge around around 6,000 examples produced worldwide. In other words, even if everything has been sold, the Galaxy Z TriFold looked more like a controlled collector’s series than a true pillar of the Galaxy range.

Total rupture of the Galaxy Z TriFold: what does that change for fans of foldables?

Over the weeks, the messaging on samsung.com evolved from simple break-up mentions to this more definitive text: “Keep visiting samsung.com to make sure you don’t miss out on the unique innovations ahead, and shop the latest foldable and premium mobile devices now at Samsung Galaxy.” Clearly, the TriFold is buried, make way for the other models.

According to MacRumors, Samsung decided to halt production just three months after launch, despite demand. The manufacturer speaks of a “super-premium device in limited quantities”, reported TechRadar, assuming an experimental positioning. Behind the scenes, the costs of a double-hinged tri-folder, with triple battery and 16 GB of RAM, in a context of shortage and rising prices of memory, would have made the project difficult to sustain.

On April 10, 2026, a “last restock” was organized in the United States, presented as the last chance to purchase. Since then, the page links to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra. For French users, who already had to go through import with a more complex after-sales service, the TriFold becomes in fact an almost inaccessible object.

Galaxy Z TriFold sold out: what alternatives and what next at Samsung?

For those who dreamed of tri-folding, Samsung now pushes two options. THE Galaxy Z Fold 7 remains the brand’s “main” foldable, in a more classic book format, designed for productivity and multitasking. THE Galaxy S26 Ultrait targets those who want maximum power and photos without a foldable screen or compromise on robustness.

On the gray market, the rare Galaxy Z TriFold already sold are beginning to take on a high-tech collector’s dimension, with resale prices well in excess of €3,000. With less than 6,000 units in circulation, the model could remain a highly sought-after curiosity among smartphone collectors.

As for the future, patents and some rumors suggest that Samsung will not abandon the tri-folding concept, but nothing is official for a possible Galaxy Z TriFold 2. This first test shows above all that technical feasibility is not enough: industrializing an ultra-high-end foldable at this level of complexity remains a risky exercise, even for the leader in the sector.
